The SSC advises the JSE regarding the granting of reciprocity to Professional Bodies in order for their members to submit technical reports (CPRs, QRE reports, valuation reports, etc.) to the JSE in compliance with the JSE listing requirements. The professional bodies so recognised are termed Recognised Professional Organisations (RPOs).
International criteria for RPOs typically require that the organisation:
- Be a self-regulatory organisation covering professionals in the mining and/or exploration industry;
- Admit members primarily based on their academic qualifications and experience;
- Require compliance with the professional standards of competence and ethics established by the organisation; and
- Be able to discipline members and have the power to suspend or expel a member
Notwithstanding, the JSE reserves the right, in conjunction with the SSC, to include additional criteria (for example (but not limited to), specific categories of membership or fields of practice) or even waive certain criteria for specific organisations or individual members.
