Steven is a Mining Engineer with +32 years mining experience in various mining companies, consultancies and, most recently, as a professor at the University of Johannesburg.  Over the years, Steven has been involved with the reporting (CPRs) and reviewing of Mineral and Coal Reserves and Mineral Asset Valuations including Ni 43 101 reports for PGEs, Gold, Coal, Chromitite, Copper, Cobalt, Nickel, Fluorite, Mineral Sands, and other minerals.  

Steven has been Vice Chairperson of the SAMREC working group since 2012; has represented the SAIMM at the 2013 CRIRSCO meeting and has been a presenter and organiser at several of our training courses over the years.  Steven is a Fellow of the South African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM), a member of the SAIMM Council, member of the SAIMM Technical Programme Committee, member of the SAIMM Diversity and Inclusion Committee, and observer on the SAIMM Young Professional Council.

Mr Ken Lomberg
SAMREC Committee Chairperson and CRIRSCO Representative

Ken has some 30 years’ experience in the minerals industry (especially platinum and gold). He has been involved in exploration and mine geology and has had the privilege of assisting in bringing a mine to full production. His expertise is especially in project management, mineral reserve and resource estimation.

Ken has undertaken mineral resource and reserve estimations and reviews for platinum, gold, copper, uranium and fluorite projects. He has assisted with the reviews or estimation of diamond and coal projects and assisted or compiled Competent Persons Reports/NI 43-101 for various projects that have been listed on the TSX, JSE and AIM stock exchanges.

Ken is also Chairman of SAMREC which is responsible for the SAMREC Code and represents SAMREC on the CRIRSCO Executive

Mrs Kelly Redman
SAMVAL Committee Chairperson

Kelly is a Mining Economist with over 25 years’ experience in the Mining Industry in geology, mining economics, project management, corporate finance (M&A) and investment banking, where she worked as a Mining Analyst. Kelly has worked internationally in companies that include Anglovaal Mining, De Beers, Anglo American, Société Générale and HSBC Kelly is currently a Co-director of XBT Corporate Services S.A. (Pty) Ltd consulting to the mining industry. Kelly has been involved with in excess of 200 projects ranging in value from US$25 million to over US$5 billion.

Her commodity exposure includes Gold, Base Metals (Cu, Pb, Zn, Mo), Platinum Group Metals, thermal and metallurgical Coal, Iron ore, Nickel, Phosphates, Niobium, Diamonds, Chrome, Vanadium, Manganese and Industrial Minerals.

Mr Peter Dekker
SAMOG Committee Chairperson

Peter studied marine geology at the Free University in Amsterdam. His professional career started with Shell International in the United Kingdom working on both the North Sea and the West of Shetland Exploration. Thereafter he moved to the Middle East (Oman) where he gained experience as a Production Geoscientist. In 2001 Peter joined Preussag Energie as Chief Geologist. Gaz de France employed him as Global Exploration manager in Paris after which he moved to South Africa where he has worked for SASOL and PetroSA.

Teresa Steele-Schober
SAMESG Committee Chairperson

Teresa has worked extensively in the mining industry as an environmental and sustainability professional. She started her working life as a geologist in the gold mining sector whereafter she moved into the environmental field. She has worked at various mine sites and corporate functions in a range of commodities including gold, base metals, heavy mineral sands and coal. Her experience includes on-site management of environmental and sustainability issues including design, implementation and management of ISO14001 compliant environmental management systems. Teresa has worked in corporate advisory and reporting roles. She has significant experience managing sustainability issues on large capital projects, including the completion of project feasibility studies; risk assessment and management; and permitting processes. Teresa worked for a large multinational mining company before opening her boutique environmental and sustainability consultancy.

As a committee member, Teresa was actively involved in the drafting of the current SAMESG Guideline.

Mr Roger Dixon
CRIRSCO Representative

Roger Dixon Pr.Eng, BSc (Hons) Mining, Hon Life FSAIMM is a mining engineer with over 44 years’ experience in the industry. He spent his early career managing deep level gold mines in the Witwatersrand Basin. He was a founder member and chairperson of the South African Mineral Resource Committee (SAMREC) which developed and published the original SAMREC Code in 2000 and the revised version in 2007.

Roger is currently one of two South African representatives on the Committee for Mineral Reserves International Reporting Standards (CRIRSCO) an organization which he chaired in 2009-2010. He is currently a corporate consultant with SRK Consulting SA.

Ms Sam Moolla
SSC Administrator

Sam Moolla is the Manager of the SAIMM and oversees the smooth running and operations of the organisation. Her forte is business administration and she has been involved in the SAIMM since the late 1980s. She left to pursue other interests in 2005 and returned in 2013.

Sam is the Administrator of the SSC and looks after the day to day running of activities and initiatives, and liaises with all members to ensure that everyone is aligned with the goals and objectives of the SSC.
